Knitting Project - A Baby Square Hat 4

Well, the project has been completed at this point of time. But as you see, it still require a few more steps for it to be completed. First, I will need to sew up the top by stitching it together using the same smaller purple thread which I have use to join the ends together. Again, make sure that stitch and closed the top with the hat folded inside out so that the stitched ends will not be seen when it is the right side out.

The interesting last part is to make a pair of pom pom and stitch it onto the two squared ends at the top of the hat.

Here it is. My very first knitting project for my baby niece done!

This is how it looks when flatten.

I try to fluff it it up and see it how it may look when it is on a baby's head.

Knitting Project - A Baby Square Hat 3

It took me several weeks to finish the first and long step of my first knitting project for a long time. Due to my busy schedule, I couldn't knit as much as I wanted to. But for someone who can some time to knit everyday. This should be easily accomplish in less than a week time. In my eagerness, I have forgotten to at least get a picture of the first step. It finally reached a rectangular mat of length of 20cm by 83 stitches. Quite a sense of accomplishment.

So now, I will need to stitch the 2 ends together using a smaller thread of the same purple colour. Stitch in such a way that when the bottom part of the hat is folded in as the picture in the part 1, no part of the stitch can be seen.

Picture shown the right side out, of the knitted baby square hat.

This is how the Baby Square Hat Knitting should look with the bottom folded.

Eagerly wanted to visualise how it may look like when it is completed.

Knitting Project - A Baby Square Hat 2

To start off my knitting project, I bought a pack of purple Snowflake Yarn from SIRDAR. Purple is just the perfect colour for my soon to be 6 month old baby niece.

And a pair of 4.0mm Knitting Needles from Aero.

To get started, follow the instruction using 4mm needles and thumb method cast on 83 and sts loosely. Following the instructions from on my earlier post. Working in g-st (throughout) cont until hat measures 20.

I used the Locking Stitch Markers from Clover to help to count every 10 stitch so that I will not miss or stitch any extras as it is quite tedious to count 83 stitches.

It is not possible to finish the whole stitching in one sitting. Another useful tool to help ensure the knitting stays on the knitting needles are the Point Protector from Clover.

Knitting Project - A Baby Square Hat 1

This is my first baby hat masterpiece. Its been quite some times since my last knitting project. I wanted to rekindle my love for knitting and found something simple yet interesting. This baby hat is for my baby niece. A one month old baby.

It is exciting to start knitting again. However, it is hard since I have forgotten most of the knitting techniques. Luckily, I found a shop selling knitting wares which is most willing to guide and teach how to knit.

This is a cute square hat design from SIRDAR which requires a minimum technique and it is most suitable for a beginner. It is great that SIRDAR has a table of chart to help determine the number of yarn needed for the project and there are instructions to knit the hat according to the age of the baby. Great!

I will be showing the stages of the knitting process in coming weeks. The instructions for this hat is as followed.

Using 4mm needles and thumb method cast on 73 [77:83:87:93:97] sts loosely.
1st Row. Knit
This row will now be referred to as g-st (garter stitch).
Working in g-st (throughout) cont until hat measures 17 [18:20:23:27:287]cm, (6½ [7:8:9:10¼:11]in), ending with a ws row.
Cast off loosely.

The size which I chooses is highlighted in blue. Stay tune for my project.
